Separating “quat” and “d” sounds awkward in comparison to “qua - ted,” based on pronunciation alone. If the fear is mispronunciation of “qua,” “quat - d” reads “kwat - di” to those unfamiliar with the word and “quate - di” to English speakers trying to follow along. Most non-opening/closing units tend to sound strange if they begin and end on both functional vowel/open or consonant/closed sounds.
