Meanings for Trimontium

MEANING: "three-mountains", as in the Three Eildon Hills of Melrose, Scottish Borders (the Roman fort, being called Trimontium (now Newstead Village)). The correct pronunciation in classical Latin is with the "I" being pronounced, "I" as in the country I-ndia and not the land formation, I-sland); however, the modern English (and local pronunciation of Scottish Borders) is the other way around: tri-, meaning three, as in tri-cycle, tri-angle, tri-mester (say, of pregnancy), and so forth.
